regenerative leather goods.

Hello and welcome to Lagom Leather!
I’m sure most of you have owned a leather bag or wallet at some point in your life. As you keep reading, I’d like you to picture that item or hold it in your hands and have a think about these 5 questions:
Do you know:
where you bought it?
who made it?
where the leather came from?
what farm the cow came from?
how that cow was raised?
I probably lost you at question one or two didn’t I? And the rest of the questions may never have crossed your mind.
You’re not to blame for not knowing the answer to these questions. Unfortunately, traceability in the leather industry is virtually non-existent. When tanneries receive hides, they often have no knowledge of how or where the animal was raised. It’s even difficult to know for certain what country it came from. Since leather is a byproduct of the meat industry, the supply chain is longer and therefore harder to control, resulting in lack of transparency.
Thankfully, the regenerative agriculture movement is working hard to provide traceability back to the land. If you haven’t heard of it, regenerative agriculture is a way of managing livestock by working with nature and mimicking the natural movement of herd animals. This helps draw down carbon into the soil which increases soil health, productivity and biodiversity, as well as improving economic and social well-being.
Lagom Leather exists to empower consumers to use their purchasing power to make informed, responsible choices to buy regeneratively. The mission behind our brand is to raise awareness and advocate for regenerative leather while creating handmade leather goods that are fully traceable back to the land.
We are doing this by sourcing all our leather from a zero waste farm that practices regenerative agriculture. Their cattle are born, raised and slaughtered right on the farm. The hides are vegetable tanned (using natural materials rather than harmful chemicals) at a family run tannery, then sent to the maker (me!) and finally delivered to the customer (you!).
Traceable every step of the way - from the land to your hands!
